The Company : History

1988-1989

Pre Colour Sound Experiment, founder Haydn Cruickshank was lighting a combination of Psychedelic rock bands and dance parties, early rave outfits like As-ya-like, MVITA & Fun House were regular gigs. Lighting was simple and the nights were late.

1990-1995

At some point in the summer of 1989 Colour Sound Experiment was officially born. The rapid growth of legal & illegal dance parties was generating rapid growth for Colour Sound from the start. In 1991 Colour Sound first invested in intelligent lighting (Golden Scan II) at the time there were only about 5 other companies with intelligent lights in the UK. This gave the opportunity to bring these new types of lighting to people that had never seen them and be part of setting a new standard in the look of a lightshow which can still be seen today. Raves continued with brands like Megadog, Return to the Source, Gatecrasher, Tribal Gathering, Tribal Energy, Desire. The dance bands began to tour in around 1993 and over the following years Colour Sound lit tours for most of them Underworld, Leftfield, Orbital, System 7, Aphex twin to name a few.

1996-2000

As Colour Sounds’ rave work grew into the monster festivals of Creamfields, Homelands, Gatecrasher, Global Gathering and the like, touring work continued with Underworld, Leftfield, Ian Brown, Ozric Tentacles, Jeff Beck, Toploader etc. Although Colour Sound had lit the odd corporate event in the early 90s, in 1996 Brand funded parties, PR events and product launch became a big part of the diary. A series of huge events for Lynx were particularly memorable.

2001-2007

An explosion in UK festivals and Corporate events kept Colour Sound busy and growing whilst still servicing the touring and dance party work.

2008-present

Despite the economic crisis, Colour Sound has continued to grow every year. Far from hiding under the duvet, Colour Sounds aggressive purchasing policy has kept up with the latest technology and refreshed the old. Although there was an initial downturn in corporate work this is now well into its recovery and the strong touring, festival and contract hire markets combined with diversification into LED screens have continued to lead Colour Sound from strength to strength.
